You can start planning your itinerary with a visit to a website dedicated to providing information about the City of Perry.  You can also check out the Perry Chamber of Commerce, or get more information on Perry here.  Houston County was established in 1821.  It included the small community of Wattsville.  In 1823, the name was changed to Perry in honor of Oliver Hazard Perry, a hero of the War of 1812.  It was incorporated the next year.  It was initially established as an antebellum industry comprised of cotton gins, sawmills, and gristmills,

There is a wide variety of hotels and plenty of restaurants.  One of the most unusual restaurants is The Swanson House.  The menu features unique southern dishes.  In addition to standard items like sliced prime rib, meatloaf, chopped steak, baked ham, and chicken tenders, they offer uniquely Southern dishes like collard green soup, field peas, country fried steak, catfish, Carroll Street chicken, and Southern fried chicken.

There are a number of yearly events that might interest visitors including those hosted at the Georgia National Fair Grounds and the Perry Area Historical Society Museum.

The Perry-Houston County Airport (PXE)

What eventually became the Perry-Houston County Airport opened in 1942.  It initially served as an auxiliary training facility for Army pilots.  After World War II, Perry acquired the field and created a municipal airport that opened in 1947.  Today, it’s owned and operated by the Perry-Houston County Airport Authority.  Watching all the unusual private aircraft take off and land on the 5,000’ runway is a real treat for airplane and helicopter enthusiasts.

The Guardian Center

The Guardian Centers provides custom tactical and logistical simulation training for first responders in the following areas: hazmat situations, technical rescue, DOD Warfighter, DOD DSCA, Medical Rescue, Law Enforcement. It is state of the art training facility that services organizations, government agencies, and students nationwide.

Go Fish Education Center

Opened in 2008 under the leadership of Georgia Governor and Houston County resident, Sonny Perdue. The Go Fish Education Center located at the Georgia National Fair Grounds in Perry is place for all ages and hobby types. Promoting Georgia’s natural resources of rivers, lakes, and oceans, this Department of Natural Resources center offers fishing simulations, a small aquarium, hunting simulations, and interactive maps of Georgia typography. Adult tickes cost $7 and tickets for children ages 3 -12 cost $5.
