Visit Centerville
Be at the center, in Centerville! This busy little town in North Houston County isn’t one to be looked over. While most Houston County residents might consider Centerville part of Warner Robins, as both cities flow into one another, Centerville is in its’ own right, a unique and vibrant community. It offers international dining such as Mexican and British cuisine, shopping at the Galleria, the county’s only indoor mall, and entertainment at the Galleria 15 Cinemas. Most recently, Centerville has unveiled its’ brand new park, Center Park. Offering state-of -the-art playgrounds, a splash pad, walking paths, and plenty of facilities (20 commodes), this is definitely a place where you’ll want to bring the family!
Centerville History
The first known reference to the present name, came from an 1888 area map that showed the community as Centerville. In 1900, Centerville citizens applied for a local post office, but postal authorities required a different name for the town since there was already a Centerville Post Office located in Gwinnett County. The town name was changed to Hattie in honor of the daughter of Mitchell F. Etheridge, a state representative. When the post office relocated to Byron a few years later, the town of Hattie was changed back to Centerville. The city would officially receive its current name as it was incorporated on March 25, 1958.
